The Only Postgraduate College Dedicated to Medical Laboratory Science in West Africa
Before WAPCMLS, there was no institution in the ECOWAS sub-region dedicated to producing specialist medical laboratory scientists. Professionals who sought postgraduate training had to travel abroad — and many never returned. WAPCMLS was created to change that.

Our Faculties
5 faculties across the biomedical laboratory sciences

The Faculty of Clinical Chemistry covers the analysis of body fluids for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. It encompasses three major specialties — Clinical Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics and Translational Science, and Immunology — each with distinct sub-specialties that address the full spectrum of biochemical, molecular, and immunological laboratory practice.
Specialties

The Faculty of Haematology focuses on the laboratory investigation of blood, blood-forming organs, and the haemostatic system. It produces specialist medical laboratory scientists skilled in haematological analysis, blood banking, transfusion science, and coagulation testing — disciplines essential to quality laboratory services across the sub-region.
Specialties

The Faculty of Medical Microbiology encompasses the laboratory study of microorganisms that cause human disease. Covering bacteriology, virology, parasitology, mycology, and entomology, this faculty produces specialist medical laboratory scientists who support disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and infection control across West Africa.
Specialties

The Faculty of Histopathology produces specialist medical laboratory scientists in tissue processing, cellular analysis, and histological techniques. Its sub-specialties span anatomical techniques, applied histology, tumour markers, tissue culture, cytology, and pathology — providing the laboratory backbone for cancer diagnosis and surgical pathology services.
Specialties

The Faculty of Medical Laboratory, Public Health, and Field Epidemiology is the broadest of the five faculties, covering epidemiology, laboratory management, veterinary laboratory science, and instrumentation. It produces specialists who bridge laboratory science with public health policy, disease surveillance, biosafety, and laboratory infrastructure across the ECOWAS region.
